Yes that is another drawback when using any of the physical wii modchip options. The Wii softmod does not suffer from this drawback though, and yes, you can play online freely!

I recently installed a drivekey mod chip. The only problem I have with it is that it only allows a read speed of 3X and it is not enough for COD W@W. With the soft chip can you play online?

So to make sure I have this right. The soft chip does the same job as a normal chip, but you dont have to solder anything??
